Parenting's not as simple as it was in the past - although I doubt it was ever that simple! There were extended families to help, advise and support young families through the difficult years. Now both parents are often working, blended families are the norm and there's often little support from friends and family and no time. If some sort of trauma should hit, there's often no 'extra' support available from your community. No wonder the divorce rate and bad behaviour in schools is on the rise.
Part of my training included psychosocial development from birth to adulthood and aging. I also studied parenting skills. However I quickly realized that without real-life experience, this is only part of the picture. Over the years I learned firsthand about what works - and what doesn't. I discovered that translating what you read into practice often takes some hands-on guidance. I've seen what it takes to build confident, contented children and young adults. I've done it myself, several times over and not so comfortably in the beginning (as my sons would agree!)! I would like to be able to help you create a strong family.
Family life can be rich and satisfying- with the right tools (primarily NVC with some Imago). I love working with young couples to create strong relationships. I'm in my element when I'm helping young parents to make their experience of family and parenting a successful one. It's why I do what I do and my clients tell me how much difference this has made in their lives.
I am a registered (and very experienced) Victoria counsellor and relationship communication specialist. Some of my best work has been with couples, families and personal development (and sexual issues) with young men and women. I work with my own adult son and daughter-in-law (different son!) and between us we offer you a lot of experience - and support.
I look forward to hearing from you,
Warm wishes, Julie
